Kitchen Reno Inspiration

October 26, 2016

the-lovelee-life-modern-farmhouse-kitchen-inspiration-board

We are getting ready to start our kitchen renovation and I am SO EXCITED!!! The goal is to have it done before Christmas…we’ll see if that happens. Just like our bathroom, my husband will be doing all the work himself, especially since I’m pregnant and can’t really participate in most of the projects. Above is the inspiration for the style we are going for, modern-farmhouse.

On the to-do list.

Paint Cabinets – our cabinets are really in pretty good condition they just have several (ugly) layers of paint on them currently, so that will be the biggest chunk of work I think. The top cabinets are going to be painted white, while the bottom cabinets will be painted a blue-gray. Then we will be replacing all the hardware to an oil-rubbed bronze.

Convert electric stove top to gas – this might be one of the things I’m looking forward to most. I absolutely hate cooking on electric stoves…gas is so much better! Luckily we already have gas in our house so we just need to get a contractor out to the house to run the line to the stove. (this is the one thing my husband won’t be doing)

Counter tops  – currently we have some really attractive laminate counters that literally have a pink floral pattern on them if you look close enough. So cute. We are ripping these suckers out and putting in Oak butcher block counters. I can’t wait. I love the love of butcher block counters, especially will all the other elements I have picked out for the kitchen. The perfect combination of modern and farmhouse.

Backsplash – The current backsplash is the same as the counter tops. This will be gone and replaced with classic white subway tile, just like we did in our bathroom reno. We’ll again be going with the pewter grout. I love the look of a darker grout so you can actually see the tiles themselves but also because it will stay way cleaner looking than if we went with white.

Sink – Right now we just have a regular old two bucket metal sink. We are replacing it will a ceramic white farmhouse (apron front) sink! This is going to be such a beautiful touch and truly bring in that farmhouse feel.

Floors – Currently we have a ‘white’ and looks black but is actually dark green, checkered floor. We actually really like the look of the checkers but we want a true white and black. So we will be going with classic snap-n-lock white/black laminate flooring.

Other than that is will be painting the walls, possibly adding some bead board around the eat-in kitchen area and a few other farmhouse touches. We have already replaced the refrigerator, oven and dishwasher from ugly white to stainless steel over the past year, so the only appliance left to replace is the stove top!

I can’t wait to get this project started, and even more so to get this project finished! It is the last big project we have on the list for the interior of our home and then it will truly feel like our style.

L’Oréal® Paris Pure-Clay Mask Detox & Brighten

I’ve heard a lot of good things about charcoal masks so I had been on the hunt for one to try. I found several but most of the them were upwards of $30 for a tiny amount and I had no idea if I would actually like it so why spend $30 on something that may end up in the garbage? Walking the aisles at Target (like I frequently do) I found this one for $10 and knew I had to try it out and I am SO glad I did! After the first time using it my skin felt so soft and it greatly reduced some redness I had going on. For $10 you really can’t beat this mask. It has quickly become my favorite. L’Oréal has a a couple other masks in this line, like the Red Clay mask that I can’t wait to try!

Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go

I’m sure you have heard of Pixi Glow tonic. It’s amazing. But the Glow Tonic To-Go is even more amazing! It literally just combines the regular glow tonic on pre-soaked pads that make it a no-brainer choice. This stuff truly does what it says its going to do: tones, brightens and exfoliates. My skin loves this and I hated the day I realized I was out and had to wait a few days to get more. This is a holy-grail product that will forever stay in rotation of my skin care routine.

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream

I have heard a lot about this cc cream and had been wanting to find something a little lighter than a full foundation for everyday wear. I bought the ‘light’ shade of this (I think is the lightest shade it comes in) and it works pretty well for my skin tone. In the summer I’ll probably need to get the next darkest shade and maybe mix it will the light. This cc cream claims to be full coverage, however I think you would have to put quite a few layers on for it to be full coverage. With that said, it is definitely buildable. I usually use 2 pumps and apply it with a damp beauty blender.  It lasts all day, doesn’t settle into fine lines, and gives your skin a dewy finish without looking too glowy and still looks like your skin. I think the best part though is it contains 50SPF. I hate putting actual sun screen on my face so I always go for face products that contain SPF. I’m excited to give this product a try next summer and see how it holds up in the heat.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

This is a pretty great brush. It is great for applying cream and liquid products. I typically use it to apply my concealer and the soft bristles really help to make it go on flawlessly. The brush is fairly cheap at $9 and I’m glad I’ve added it to my expanding collection of Real Techniques brushes.

Bed Head Dumb Blonde Toning Shampoo

I literally could not say enough good things about this product. I have been using it for about a year now and it has made all the different in keeping my hair from going yellow. About year ago I got my hair colored a really icy/grey-ish blonde but I knew a few weeks later it would start yellowing, that’s just what my hair does. But after one use of this shampoo my icy blonde was back and I’ve been hooked every since! I typically wash my hair 3 times a week and I use it every time. You can leave it on your hair for up to 10 minutes depending on the look you are going for and you don’t have to worry about it turning your hair purple. I LOVE this shampoo so much, I will never use anything else again.

NYX Baked Blush

I love baked blushes and had been looking for a cheaper one. When I stumbled upon this one at Ulta I knew I needed to try it out. NYX is actually a super reasonably priced brand that doesn’t compromise quality. This blush contains an illuminator so you can that dewy quality without looking too shiny. I picked this up in the color ‘Journey’. It is a really pretty light pink with subtle peach tones and gold shimmer. I think its the perfect color all year-round. The best thing about this product is it truly does last all day and is fairly pigmented with out being too much so that your brush touches it and is doused in color. It’s pretty perfect 🙂

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick

I tend to be drawn to more nude lip colors. I had heard Rimmel lipsticks were pretty high quality so when I saw this one in the color Airy Fairy I knew I needed it. This lipstick is super moisturizing so it doesn’t dry out your lips and it has just a touch of sheen to it, so it’s neither matte or glossy. The color online looks a little more peachy than it is in person. It’s actually just the perfect combo of pink and peach with a really subtle gold shimmer. Putting it on its really close to my natural lip color, just boosted up a bit. I’ve been wearing it everyday since its easy to apply on the fly.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer

I used to use a concealer from MAC but I got annoyed when I would run out and have to make a special trip to the MAC store or order it online. So I was looking for a concealer I could pick up at Ulta since I frequent them quite often (and it’s right next to my local Target which I’m at pretty much every weekend) This concealer is definitely my new favorite! It feels totally weightless on, doesn’t crease in those pesky under eye lines and really helps brighten up my face. And, it truly does cover everything without looking cakey. I usually set it with a light setting powder and I’m good to go.

Essie Gel Couture

This is by far the best ‘Gel’ polish I have ever tried, and I have tried A LOT. Two thin coats of the polish color followed by one coat of the Gel Couture Top Coat and just a few minutes later its done and dry, no light needed! It really does last for a full week without chipping at all and looks like the gel nail manicure you would get at the salon. Each color is a little spendy at almost $12 a bottle but in comparison to making bi-weekly visits to the nail salon, you’re saving a ton of money. This product is super fast drying, leaves your nails with that gel shine we all love, and doesn’t require a light. Pretty perfect in my opinion 🙂

It’s a Girl!

Freshly Picked Moccs

lovelee-life-its-a-girl-02

lovelee-life-its-a-girl-05

As you can tell by the title of the post, we found out we are expecting a baby girl! I am so incredibly excited. Obviously my husband and I were just hoping for a healthy baby (which she is!!) but we (mostly me) really, really wanted a girl. We have had a girls name picked out literally before we were married, engaged ect. Pretty much her name has been set for 3 years now and I couldn’t be more excited that we finally get to put it to use! However, we are keeping her name between us (and a couple close friends) until she is born. Gotta have a little bit of a surprise left 😉

We just found out yesterday at our 20 week anatomy scan and I have already spent way too much money buying girl specific baby items now…oops 😉 The first thing I bought was this ride-on unicorn from Land of Nod. It goes with the theme of the nursery I have had planned sine the day I found out we were expecting. I’ll do a post soon on the nursery inspiration. I have already made a couple large clothing haul purchases a well. I mean, baby girl clothes are just TOO CUTE! Some of my favorite shops to scour online have been Old Navy and Zara. I’m not into super froo-froo girl stuff (tutus, sparkles, ect.) and Old Navy and Zara have baby girl clothes that are just the right amount of girly, without being over the top plus they are cheap. I’ll do a round-up post soon of some of my favorite clothing items I’ve purchased so far.

I can’t believe we are already half way to meeting our baby girl and knowing the gender has made everything feel so much more real. I’m so excited and hoping these next few months will fly by 🙂

My New Favorite Fragrance

September 14, 2016

lovelee-life-favorite-frangrance-01

lovelee-life-favorite-frangrance-02

lovelee-life-favorite-frangrance-04

When it comes to fragrances I have tried quite a few over the past few years in hopes of finding one that I could commit to and could really become my ‘signature scent.’ From cheap drugstore buys to expensive, I only want to use this sparingly because it cost so damn much, fragrances. I’ve tried them all.

It wasn’t until a couple weeks ago when I was in Anthropologie that I found THE ONE! I had actually gone in to try and find the Mermaid No.1 perfume that I had heard a lot about, but with no luck I started sniffing away at the countless other perfumes they had. And that’s when I found it, Fictions Eau De Parfum line, specifically the London She Knew He Was Forever. Initially I was drawn to the packaging. (I’m a designer so this tends to be a trend that gets me to take interest in a product) Not only was the packaging beautiful, and well crafted but the scent of this fragrance was basically everything I had ever been looking for and so much more!! (dramatic, I know, but I just love the smell so much!) The fragrance is a floral scent but not overly sweet like I find many floral scents to be. It’s top notes are magnolia and honeysuckle (my two favorite floral scents!) and subtle hints of green tea, honey, and a warm woody smell. Basically everything I could ever want to smell constantly.

I initially purchased the smaller, travel sized bottle so I could test it out for a couple weeks and make sure I was still in love with it before I purchased the full-size, more expensive bottle. One thing I’ve noticed with this perfume is a little goes a long way and lasts all day! Something that any quality fragrance really should do. And really, the cost of the full size bottle, $48, isn’t really all that much for something I think will last for months and months.

Safe to say, I’ve purchased the full-size bottle and will stick with this scent for the foreseeable future. 🙂

We’re Having a Baby!

August 25, 2016

baby-adams-announcement

I still can’t believe it but we are expecting our first baby March 2017! We are so incredibly excited. The first trimester seems like it has flown by. Although, on the days where I felt like I would vomit every minute, it seemed as those the first trimester would never end 🙂 With that said I do feel like my morning sickness was relatively mild compared to some. I felt really great up until 7 weeks and then the waves of nausea hit. The constant nausea lasted for about 2 weeks and the day after we had out first ultrasound the actual vomiting started. But luckily, it only lasted for about 3 days and I slowly started to feel like myself again.

We found out we were expecting a few days before the 4th of July. And good thing we did, because we spent the holiday weekend camping at Lake Billy Chinook and it was full of boating and boozing (fake booze for me). That was probably the hardest part, pretending to drink without people noticing I wasn’t actually partaking in those activities. We decided to tell a few of our close friends that were on the trip so they could offer to make me fake drinks, ect. It worked out pretty well, but to be honest, I was in bed by 9:30 each night while everyone else was partying into the wee hours of the morning and I don’t think anyone really noticed.

As of today I am officially 12 weeks! I am dying to find out the gender!!!! Mostly because I want to start planning the nursery and buying cute baby clothes 🙂 (not that I haven’t started already) We have our fingers crossed for a particular gender (I’m not saying yet because I don’t want to jinx myself!) but obviously all that really matters is that we have a healthy baby. We have the first and middle name picked out for the gender we are hoping for (and have actually had this name combo picked out for 3+ years, prior to us being married or even engaged ha!) and that is also part of the reason we are hoping for that gender. We have no clue as far as a name goes for the other gender! But, I’m sure we would figure it out one way or another.

I’m so excited to be able to share this news and will continue to post monthly updates as well as nursery plans and any awesome baby products I discover along the way!

Early Veggie Garden Start

April 13, 2016

IMG_8677IMG_8696IMG_8737IMG_8710IMG_8731IMG_8725IMG_8686IMG_8780IMG_8767^^^naughty pup^^^IMG_8813IMG_8792IMG_8794IMG_8802IMG_8824For Christmas my sister and brother-in-law gifted my husband and I an above ground garden planter, built by them! My brother-in-law is always building new furniture and actually custom builds these planters (reclaimed or new wood, ours is reclaimed 🙂 ) and sells them as a side hobby outside of his real job as a small animal vet.  We worked with them to decide on what size we thought would be best and we decided on a square 4′ x 4′ planter. We figured this size would be big enough without being too obtrusive in the yard, and not too big that we would have an overflow of veggies on our hand. But who am I kidding, I don’t exactly have the greenest of thumbs so I really just didn’t want to end up with a plethora of dead plants haha.  Anyways, the 4′ x 4′ size really is nice and we’re able to easily walk around the garden on all sides making watering and harvesting easy.

Before planting anything we filled the planter with a soil/mulch/fertilizer mixture that my sister and brother-in-law brought over with the planter (almost a whole trailer full). We filled the entire planter to the brim knowing that the soil would settle and drop about 6 inches or so. After a day or two we added a bag of nice garden soil to lay down a nourishing base for the vegetables to hopefully flourish. Now we were ready to start planting!

When choosing what veggies we wanted to plant we (obviously) wanted to pick veggies we knew we would eat and tend to be regulars in our meal choices. We also wanted to make sure we didn’t overcrowd the planter but also tried to maximize the space.

What we have planted so far…

  • Black Prince Heirloom Tomatoes
  • Black Cherry Heirloom Tomatoes
  • Hot Chili Peppers
  • Sweet Basil
  • Thai Basil (my husband is obsessed with all asian food and would eat it for every meal if he could)
  • Heirloom carrots

To be planted in a month or two when the weather warms up more…

  • Bok Choy
  • An assortment of hot peppers

After getting the first round of vegetables planted we topped them off with a little bit of plant food to again, hopefully ensure that they actually grow and don’t just die like most things I plant 🙂 If all goes well we should have some really delicious veggies to look forward to this summer, but I mostly can’t wait to eat caprese salads from my backyard all summer long!

Bathroom Remodel Inspiration

April 11, 2016

modern-farmhouse-bathroom-inspiration-boardWhen my husband and I purchased our first home last Spring we knew there were some things that we wanted to change to make the house fit our style and taste. The house is a small, 2 bedroom 1 bath built in 1952 and let’s just say, it was pretty evident no improvements (other than new windows) had been done to the house since 1952.  Overall the house is in decent condition but updates are still needed.

In comes our sole bathroom. It’s tiny, dingy, and totally 50’s style. With that said, its completely functional and is just awaiting some remodel magic 🙂

I put together an inspiration board before we started anything so I could visualize all the materials I had selected together. I really think this is the best way to start any project when it comes to remodeling or even just basic decorating. I had a hard time choosing a light fixture so being able to simply swap different photos out really helped ease the decision making so I didn’t feel like I purchased something that really wouldn’t work in the space.

I can’t wait to share the before and after photos soon!

The Beginning

April 1, 2016

The inaugural post. Oh man. This idea, this blog, has been a thought for what feels like forever. I did a lot of talking about wanting to start this after spending countless hours scouring other lifestyle blogs every day and always wishing I could have a similar space. And now here I am, actually seeing this come to life and I’m pretty excited.

After my husband Mars (yes, like the planet) and I got married and purchased our first home last spring I knew I wanted to create a space to document our lives and our inevitable home projects. Not only that but I wanted to create a space of my own that would challenge me in new ways creatively, to dedicate myself to something that inspired me and hopefully will inspire others as well.

I am so excited to have this space to share everything from our home diy projects, to decor inspiration, recipes I love, beauty products I’m addicted to and every-day life.

Welcome to The Lovelee Life
(It might not always be so lovelee 🙂 haha)
