When I was pregnant I totally thought (or at least hoped) I would be one of those people that would be back in their pre-baby jeans, at their pre-baby weight just a few short weeks after birth… Well that wasn’t the case (obviously). I gained 45lbs during my pregnancy. The first 20 lbs just fell off while I was sitting on the couch, stuffing my face with lasagna, nursing a baby 24/7. But then, the weight stopped coming off. Every time I stepped on the scale the number never changed, no matter what I did. There were points where I thought, “Okay, this is just me now. This is now my body and it will just always carry this extra weight.” But as much as I thought I could be happy that way, I wasn’t. As much as my husband, family, friends told me how great I looked, and it didn’t matter what my weight was, I didn’t feel good about myself.
This is when I started Kayla Itsines, BBG program, using the SWEAT app. It is a 12 week high-intensity program with short 30 minute workouts. (I only followed the workout portion, not the diet) I thought, 30 minutes? Okay, totally manageable, even with trying to balance a job and a newborn. I downloaded the app and gave it a try. The first week was ROUGH. While the workouts are only 30 minutes, they are intense. After day 1 I could barely walk I was so sore! But it was the good kind of sore (not like the soreness you experience from a 2nd degree tear during birth…eeeeeek). Eventually I overcame the soreness and was able to really get into the workouts (but definitely still didn’t enjoy them).
It took about a month and a half or so, but that is when I finally felt like my daily workout was just my routine. And now, 65 weeks later(!!!), it is still my routine. I will say, I still do not necessarily enjoy working out, but I LOVE how I feel after and what it has done for my body and that is what keeps me motivated. I have been doing it for so long now that my whole day will feel off if for whatever reason, I haven’t done my workout.
I can’t say enough good things about the BBG program. I swear it is the reason why I have been able to basically eat whatever I want and just continue to workout and not have it effect my body in a negative way. That never used to be the case. Over the course of 15ish months and several rounds of BBG I have transformed my post-baby body from flabby and unfit, to strong, toned, and lean. I have real abs for the first time since high school!!! When I started my goal was to tone my body and and loose those last 25lbs. I am so happy because not only did I reach my goal, I exceeded it! Obviously the toning aspect is a never ending process that will continue but I am now below my pre-baby weight and more importantly, I feel the healthiest, strongest and most confident I have ever felt in my life.
